Privacy Policy
Akomam ("we", "us") runs the Akomam websites, the Akomam studio and our mobile apps (together, "the Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
When you join the list
If you sign up for updates on our website, we keep your email address and when you signed up.
When you sign in
Access to the studio is by invitation. If you sign in with a username and password we set up with you, we keep your username and what we need to sign you in securely.
When you sign in with Google, Google shares with us your Google account ID, your email address (and whether Google has verified it), your name and a link to your profile picture. We store these with the dates your account was created and last signed in. We do not receive your Google password, and we do not get access to your Gmail, Drive, contacts or any other Google data.
What you put into the studio
The studio works with text you write or paste, such as an account of your beliefs, experiences or goals, and produces maps, summaries and designs from it. That text can be personal. We process it to give you your results; today the studio does not keep it once your request is done. Maps and designs you save are kept in your browser or on your device, not on our servers, unless you choose to send them somewhere.
In the future we may use submissions, with names and other details that identify you removed, to improve our models. We will not start doing so without updating this policy and telling you first, and we will explain then how to opt out.
Technical information
Like any website, our servers and our providers' servers receive your IP address, browser or device type and the pages and features you request. This is used to deliver the Service, keep it secure and fix problems, and appears in our and our providers' operational logs.
Usage events
To see which steps of the studio are slow or hard to use, the studio records anonymous usage events: which steps were taken (for example, that a map was asked for, or a design was saved) and how long they took, such as how many seconds a map took to appear. These events never include anything you write or any part of your results, are not linked to your account, and are grouped only by a random number that lasts for one visit and is not stored on your device.
Payments
If we offer paid plans, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor, which collects your card details directly. We receive only what we need to manage your subscription (such as your plan, payment status and the last four digits of your card), never your full card number.
Cookies and local storage
We use only cookies the Service needs to work: one that keeps you logged in, one that keeps you signed in to your account, and a short-lived one that protects the Google sign-in from forgery. We use no advertising or analytics cookies, and the usage events above use none. The studio also stores your settings (such as light or dark theme) and saved designs in your browser's local storage, which stays on your device.
How we use information
- to provide the Service: logging you in, producing your results and keeping your account;
- to send you the updates you asked for (email us to stop them at any time);
- to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems;
- to understand which parts of the Service are slow or hard to use, from anonymous usage events;
- to bill you, if you buy a paid plan; and
- to meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the Service, under contracts that allow them to use it only to provide their services to us and require them to protect it. They fall into these categories:
- cloud hosting and storage, which runs the studio and our models and stores our data, in the United States;
- network and security, which delivers our website and protects it from abuse;
- sign-in: when you choose to sign in with Google, Google confirms who you are; and
- payment processing, if you buy a paid plan.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or to a successor if Akomam is merged or acquired, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
Google user data
Akomam's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use the information Google shares at sign-in only to create and identify your Akomam account, and we do not transfer it to others except as described above.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account exists, and your email on the updates list until you ask us to remove it. When you ask us to delete your information, we delete it from our live systems promptly; copies in our daily backups are overwritten within 30 days. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Anonymous usage events are kept for up to a year.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, give you a copy, or delete it and your account. Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for exercising them. To make a request, email us at the address below; we may need to confirm it is you.
You can also remove Akomam's access to your Google account at any time in your Google account settings.
Security
We use administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, and limit who can reach it. No service can be perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects it, as the law requires.
Children
The Service is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
We are based in the United States and our data is stored there. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy here and update the date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you before it takes effect, by email or in the Service.
